Getting started

Set up your account and learn the basics of Hippo.

How do I create an account?
Download the Hippo app on iOS or Android, or open the web app and tap “Sign up”. You can register with your email address. Once registered, you can set up your profile, follow people, and start discovering deals.
What can I do on Hippo?
Hippo is a social shopping platform. You can discover products and deals, browse curated collections, follow people whose taste you trust, react and comment on what you find, and share items directly with friends in chat.
How do I set up my profile?
After signing in, open your profile and add a display name, profile photo, and a short bio. A complete profile helps friends find and recognize you across the platform.

Your account & profile

Sign in, update your details, and manage your account.

How do I reset my password?
On the login screen, tap “Forgot password” and enter the email address linked to your account. We’ll send you a link to set a new password. If you don’t receive it, check your spam folder or contact us.
How do I update my email or profile information?
Open Settings → Manage account to update your profile details. Changes to your display name and username are visible to other users; your email address stays private.
How do I delete my account?
You can delete your account from the app or the web. For full details on what gets deleted, what may be retained, and how long it takes, see our account deletion guide.

Discovering deals & products

Find products, deals, and categories you’ll love.

How does my feed work?
Your home feed is personalized based on your favorites and recommendations from the app. The Hot Deals section highlights trending deals across the platform, so there’s always something new to discover.
How do I browse by category?
Open the Categories section to explore products and deals grouped by topic. Tap any category to see everything within it, then open an item for full details.
How do I like or comment on a product?
Open any product page and tap the heart icon to like it. To leave a comment, tap the comment icon and type your message. You can like and comment on deals and collections the same way.

Collections & saving

Curate and organize the items you care about.

What are collections?
Collections are curated lists of products and deals you can save and organize. They’re a great way to group items by theme — a wishlist, gift ideas, or a seasonal haul.
How do I create a collection and add items?
From your profile, create a new collection and give it a name. Then open any product or deal and add it to your collection. You can manage and reorder items from the collection page at any time.
Can I share a whole collection?
Yes. Open a collection, tap the share icon, and choose a contact from your chat list. The full collection appears directly in your conversation with them.

Following & people

Connect with people and build your network.

How do I follow or unfollow someone?
Go to a person’s profile and tap the Follow button. To unfollow, tap the same button again. You can manage who you follow from your profile, and see your followers and following lists there too.
How do I find people to follow?
Browse the People section to discover suggested accounts, or open a profile to see who they follow and who follows them. Following people whose taste you trust helps personalize your feed.

Sharing & chat

Send products, deals, and collections to friends.

How do I share a product or deal with a friend?
Open the product or deal, tap the share icon, and choose a contact from your chat list. The item appears directly in your conversation with them, ready to discuss.
How does chat work?
Chat lets you message other users directly. You can send text as well as products, deals, and collections you discover. Direct messages are private and only visible to the people in the conversation.

Notifications & preferences

Control what you’re notified about and how Hippo looks.

Can I turn off notifications?
Yes. Go to Settings → Preferences → Notification to manage your notification preferences.
How do I switch to dark mode or change the language?
Open Settings → Preferences, where you can toggle Dark Mode and choose your preferred language.

Privacy & safety

Stay in control of who can see and contact you.

How do I block or mute someone?
Go to Settings → Account → Blocked users to block someone, or Settings → Account → Muted users to mute them. Blocking prevents them from seeing your profile and activity. Muting hides their activity from your feed without notifying them.
How is my information used?
We explain exactly what we collect, how we use it, and how it’s shared in our Privacy Policy. Most activity is public by default, but you can limit the visibility of your profile and content in your settings.

Troubleshooting

Fix common issues and report problems.

How do I report a problem?
Go to Settings → Support → Report a problem to send us a bug report directly from the app. You can also email us at contact@joinhippo.com and we’ll look into it.
Something isn’t loading. What should I do?
First, check your internet connection and make sure you’re running the latest version of the app. Closing and reopening the app, or signing out and back in, resolves most temporary issues. If the problem continues, reach out and tell us what you were doing when it happened.
